No Fear

An idea that's been in my sketchbook for a while, I finally got around to drawing it. I recently became interested (or rather re-interested?) in children's crayons as an art medium.

I decided that I would try working in grayscale first, to understand the tools without having to worry about color quality. They were a little frustrating at first because they wouldn't take a point very well. Often when I sharpened them, they would just crumble apart. It was very tempting to blend everything with solvent and make the picture behave. Eventually, I was able to get about the right look. The result is a little rough, but it's kind of refreshing. Rigidity is always something that's bothered me about my work. Turns out the best way to let a drawing breathe is, well, to let it.
